Infrastructure Systems Administrator - Defence & Maritime
Location: Central Sydney
Clearance: NV1 (Australian Citizens only)
Salary: $160,000 - $190,000 depending on experience
Our client, a leading defence partner in the maritime domain, is seeking a skilled Infrastructure Systems Administrator to join their team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the stability, security, and scalability of critical defence simulation and fleet battle systems.

Key Responsibilities
* Administer and maintain Windows Server 2022 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 systems
* Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and implement system hardening
* Configure and optimise Hyper-V and VMware environments
* Oversee Veeam Backup & Replication, including disaster recovery planning
* Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Cisco switches/routers and FortiGate firewalls
* Support and secure LAN, WAN, and VPN infrastructure
* Integrate and support simulation systems using advanced simulation architectures
* Ensure systems remain compliant with evolving Defence cyber standards
* Monitor performance, apply patches, and automate tasks with PowerShell and Bash
* Provide Tier 2/3 support and manage incident troubleshooting and resolution
* Maintain up-to-date documentation of ICT systems and services
* Collaborate with vendors and Defence stakeholders under structured change management
Required Qualifications & Certifications
1. Certificate IV, Diploma, or higher in IT; or equivalent industry certifications such as:
* Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administrator
* Red Hat Certified System Administrator/Engineer (RHCSA/RHCE)
* VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
* Cisco CCNA/CCNP
* Fortinet NSE 4+
* Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE)
* CompTIA Security+ or Network+
Essential Skills & Experience
* Minimum 5 years' systems administration experience in medium-to-large IT environments
* Strong expertise in Windows and/or Linux (RHEL) administration
* Proven experience with Cisco networking and FortiGate firewalls
* In-depth knowledge of AD, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
* Hands-on experience with Hyper-V, VMware, and Veeam Backup & Replication
* Solid grasp of networking protocols (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, VPNs, multicast)
* Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
* Knowledge of cyber security practices and security awareness
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Highly Desirable
* Exposure to defence/military IT environments, especially maritime or naval
* Experience with simulation standards (DIS/HLA)
* Familiarity with Naval Combat Management Systems (2+ years)
* Understanding of Navy operations, doctrine, and warfighting principles
* Knowledge of C4I systems (e.g., Link16, GCCS)
* Proficiency in automation scripting (PowerShell, Bash)
Additional Details
* Hours: 40 per week; flexibility required to align with US time zones during exercises (may include overnight work)
* Clearance: Must currently hold or be eligible to hold an NV1 Defence clearance
* Eligibility: Australian Citizens with current security clearance
