About This Role

Co-ordinate and support project management activities relating to the implementation of strategic projects in the adult prison system.Fixed term, full-time opportunity to work with a high-performing and passionate team in the Victorian Public Service.VPS Grade 5: $113,022 - $136,747 plus superannuation.

The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a Senior Project Officer, Strategic Projects to provide a critical role within Corrections Victoria.

About The Business Unit

The Department of Justice and Community Safety (the department) delivers a justice and community safety system that works to build a safer, fairer and stronger Victoria. The Corrections and Justice Services group, comprising Corrections Victoria, Justice Health and Justice Services, plays an integral role in the department in developing safer and more resilient communities and in delivering a trusted justice and community safety system.

Corrections Victoria operates Victoria's adult prison system and is responsible for achieving the appropriate balance between a safe, secure and humane system while providing programs and services that seek to rehabilitate people through addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.

Corrections Victoria is currently delivering a range of strategic projects that support reforms across the prison system.

Custodial Operations includes a fixed term project team to assist Assistant Commissioners and prison General Managers in managing and supporting reforms at locations, from stakeholder engagement processes, analysis, and project planning, through to implementation and project evaluation.

About The Role

This role reports to the Senior Project Manager, Strategic Projects and is a key contributor to a small team primarily focussed on implementing operational change, preparing our people for change and ensuring successful project outcomes.

The Senior Project Officer provides advice and project management to support implementation of changes to prison operational models. Working with central business units, prisons, and stakeholders, the role will work across a range of activities to ensure project deliverables and timelines are aligned and reflect organisational objectives.

Given the nature of the project, the team will generally work from Ravenhall State Services building, though project needs may necessitate travel and work at other prison locations.

Some Of Your Duties Will Include

Co-ordinate and support project management activities, including project planning, identification, and management of risks, and ensure that project deliverables align with work program and project objectives.Provide high-quality, authoritative and strategic advice to the General Manager and Senior Project Manager, Strategic Projects on complex and sensitive issues.Identifies emerging issues that may impact project implementation and develop creative, innovative, and practical solution options and recommendations to ensure continued effective project delivery.Develop and deliver complex briefing and project management material in relation to business improvements and project management for consideration by senior decision makers.Support and contribute to sensitive consultations and negotiations with key stakeholders to influence project development/implementation and secure co-operation for planned outcomes.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

Experience in Corrections Victoria operations and administrative processes, including knowledge of policies, procedures and priorities.Experience in the management or monitoring or projects, programs, or policy initiatives.Conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to analyse operational, regulatory, policy and legal issues.Strong verbal communication to negotiate with stakeholders and peers with the object of gaining cooperation and meeting timelines for project delivery, facilitating collaboration and negotiating effectively to meet organisational objectives.Strong written communication written including the ability to contribute to project plans, policy advice, and briefs on highly complex issues.Excellent knowledge of project management principles, the investment and project lifecycle, and project delivery within a government context.

Qualifications/requirements

Qualifications/s or experience in project management, change management, public policy, service delivery or other relevant discipline is desirable.Previous experience in the public sector, preferably in justice and/or community service-related environment.
