The Opportunity

Lithgow City Council has an exciting opportunity for a Cadet Project Manager to join their team in Lithgow, NSW on a temporary term contract. You will be currently studying a degree level qualification in Engineering, Project Management, or similar, within your second to last year or last year of study.

The Cadet Project Manager will work under direction to complete minor projects, and co‐deliver larger scale projects, to gain experience in investigations, design review, project management, construction and maintenance, operations and other activities associated with the provisions of Project Management services in local government.

This position will report directly to the Project Management Office and a range of project management experts within Council. You will be trained by senior staff who will ensure a training plan is developed to complement your university subjects with the ability to rotate through the various Council work locations as part of a comprehensive development program.

More specifically, your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

* Undertake all allocated work as part of the on‐the‐job training supplied by Lithgow City Council or its project partners.
* Adhere to all Work Health and Safety requirements and to other Council policies and procedures to ensure compliance and safety at work.
* Provide project administrative and operational support, including monitoring and reporting on project plans, milestones, and deliverables, to ensure time, cost and quality indicators are in line with approved project plans and knowledge gained through studies.
* Provide quality customer service, ensure accurate and current information when assisting and responding to enquiries from customers and clients.
* Assist the team by providing a range of secretariat and administrative services, including coordinating meetings for senior managers and team members, preparing agendas, meeting documentation and other tasks to support program management delivery.
* Perform any other duties that are reasonably within the competency, skills and training of incumbent as may be directed from time to time by the position's supervisor.
* Demonstrate a strong customer focus which is accurate, responsive, timely and courteous.

About you

The successful candidate will meet the following criteria:

* Studying a tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management, or similar within your second to last year or last year of study
* Well‐developed oral and written skills
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Ability to liaise with staff and the community
* WHS Construction Induction Certificate (White Card)
* Experience using databases, geographical information systems and mobile computing, with a good understanding of GIS mapping systems, Microsoft Word, Excel and Project
* Demonstrated ability to apply EEO, WHS and ethical principles and to act with probity at all times.
* Class C Drivers Licence

In addition, an ideal candidate would have general knowledge of Project Management discipline in a local government context and a demonstrated passion for working in the public sector.

Salary and Benefits

* Between $809.76 and $991.28 (21) hours per week, commensurate with your skills, qualifications and experience
* Part‐time, 21 hours/3 days per week, however subject to full time (35) per week during semester breaks
