Position Purpose
We’re hiring Panel Beaters on a full‑time, permanent basis. Multiple positions are available. As a Panel Beater with High St Smash, your main job is to repair, replace, align, and restore vehicle panels and structures to manufacturer‑approved standards. You’ll be working closely with painters, estimators, and the broader repair team on a wide range of vehicles — from minor dents to major collision damage.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect damaged vehicles, assess repair needs, and determine the best repair method.
- Remove damaged panels, components, trims, and hardware to access structural areas.
- Repair or replace body panels using industry‑approved methods — including pulling, filling, welding, and straightening.
- Realign chassis, frames, and structural elements to manufacturer specifications using jigs and pulling equipment.
- Fit, shape, and install replacement panels, bonnets, guards, doors, bumpers and structural components.
- Use metalworking tools, welders, plastic repair equipment, and power tools safely and effectively.
- Repair dents, creases and deformities to achieve a smooth, consistent surface prior to refinishing.
- Grind, sand, fill and prepare repaired surfaces to ensure proper integration with painting processes.
- Carry out plastic repairs on bumpers and mouldings where required.
- Work closely with estimators and painters to ensure seamless workflow and repair quality.
- Perform test‑fit and alignment checks to guarantee correct panel gaps, door operation, bonnet/boot alignment, etc.
- Maintain workshop equipment, tools, and repair bays in clean, safe, organised condition.
- Follow manufacturer repair guidelines, insurance procedures, and company quality standards.
- Document repair steps as required and communicate progress to workshop management.
- Adhere to workplace health & safety policies, PPE use, hazardous‑material handling, and safe repair practices at all times.
What We Are Looking For
- Minimum 1 year of relevant panel beating or automotive body repair experience.
- Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology (or equivalent qualification: trade cert/diploma/degree in automotive body repair).
- Strong practical skills in structural & non‑structural panel work, welding, panel alignment, and metal repair.
- Ability to understand repair plans, diagrams, and manufacturer instructions.
- Valuable attention to detail — you care about accuracy, straight lines, clean fits, and proper alignment.
- Capable of working efficiently while maintaining a high standard of workmanship.
- Reliable, disciplined, and able to operate in a fast‑paced workshop environment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Understanding of WHS responsibilities, safe tool handling, and correct repair‑procedures.
- Driver’s licence preferred; insurance‑approved repair‑shop experience is a bonus.
- A mindset that values doing the job properly, not cutting corners — quality comes first.
