The Role The Public Transport Authority (PTA) is delivering a major High-Capacity Signalling (HCS) project which will deploy a modern Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) system across the Perth metropolitan rail network.
To support the implementation of the project, the PTA is seeking experienced
Senior Signal Systems Engineers
across three
specialist disciplines .
The Senior Signal Systems Engineer -
Wayside Signalling, Automatic Train Supervision (ATS)
and
Onboard Signalling
roles will provide engineering assurance, technical expertise and systems integration knowledge and experience to ensure the delivery and implementation of the CBTC system is:
Designed, delivered and assured in accordance with PTA requirements;
Safely and reliably integrated into the operational railway;
Compliant with legislative, regulatory and engineering standards;
Delivered with minimal impact to rail operations during construction, testing and commissioning
These roles will be responsible for providing engineering assurance and technical expertise for the design, delivery, integration, testing, commissioning and handover of the CBTC signalling system in accordance with the PTA Engineering Management Framework. Working closely with internal and external teams, contractors, operators and other stakeholders, from design development through to commissioning and operational handover the roles will ensure all works are seamlessly integrated into the operational railway.
Responsibilities include developing engineering solutions, managing system interfaces, minimising operational impacts during construction and commissioning, contributing to standards and asset management documentation, and supporting broader project activities such as risk management, performance reporting, continuous improvement and the promotion of a strong safety culture.

sub‑system as part of the CBTC system.
Key Focus
Undertakes the project engineering responsibilities for the delivery of the
Onboard Signalling
sub‑system;
Management of the
Onboard Signalling
sub‑system interfaces with the rollingstock and other CBTC sub‑systems;
Develops engineering solutions in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders aligned to the project goals, and provides advice on all aspects of CBTC systems and
Onboard Signalling
related matters.
Senior Signal Systems Engineer - Automatic Train Supervision (ATS) Provides engineering assurance and technical expertise for the design and delivery of the
Automatic Train Supervision (ATS)
sub‑system.
Key Focus
Undertakes the project engineering responsibility for delivery of the
ATS
sub‑system;
Management of
ATS
sub‑system interfaces with other operational systems;
Provides technical advice and subject matter expertise on all aspects of CBTC systems and
ATS
related matters to project managers and stakeholders as required.

sub‑systems with other operational rail systems.

Develops engineering solutions in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders aligned to the project goals, and provides advice on all aspects of CBTC systems and

related matters.
What we are looking for
Possession of relevant degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronic, Systems or similar) that would satisfy admission requirements for membership to Engineers Australia;
Demonstrated experience in planning, design, construction and commissioning of CBTC signalling systems;
Experience in managing the technical interfaces and integration of CBTC signalling systems;
Demonstrated understanding of engineering assurance, systems integration and project lifecycle delivery;
Experience working within regulated or operational rail environments;
Skilled in engaging effectively with a diverse range of technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Experience in
CBTC, Automatic Train Protection (ATP)/Automatic Train Operations (ATO), ATS or other modern rail signalling systems
will be highly regarded.
