About the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists to join the SSN‐AUKUS Build program in Australia with The Australian Shipbuilder, a joint venture between ASC and BAE Systems. As our new Capacity Planning Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and applying capacity models that support efficient, sovereign submarine manufacturing. Working closely with planning, engineering and production teams, you will help shape shipyard capacity modelling capability, embed lessons learned from global submarine programs, and drive production readiness. This role offers the chance to build deep technical expertise and influence long‐term manufacturing outcomes for Australia's future submarine capability.
This is a full‐time opportunity based at our Osborne site in SA.
Responsibilities
* Collaborate with program, planning, engineering and production teams to develop and document submarine manufacturing processes, workflows and systems aligned to build strategy objectives.
* Support capability development initiatives, including capacity modelling and advanced production methodologies tailored to Australian operations.
* Develop, mature and maintain shipyard capacity modelling capability in line with the agreed capacity modelling strategy.
* Perform capacity modelling activities and analyse results to inform production readiness, workforce planning and infrastructure decisions.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying, recommending and helping implement process and system enhancements.
* Produce high‐quality reports and artefacts detailing modelling assumptions, inputs, results, limitations and future recommendations.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with domestic and international stakeholders to support integrated build planning and execution.
About you
* Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
* Demonstrated engineering or technical experience within a complex manufacturing or process engineering environment, preferably in Defence, Shipbuilding and/or heavy engineering industries.
* Experience in capacity planning, capacity modelling, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering or production planning within a complex industrial, defence, shipbuilding or heavy manufacturing environment.
* Demonstrated experience developing or working with manufacturing process models, simulations or production system models.
* Understanding of production readiness, manufacturing processes and workflow design in a high‐assurance or regulated environment.
* Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and translate analysis into practical recommendations.
This role requires a current National Police Clearance, an Australian Defence Security Clearance and an ability to access protected US defence technology. Your eligibility for this role is dependent on you obtaining and maintaining such clearances and approvals.
