Offer description

Our Federal Government client is seeking experienced and qualified APS6 Historian to join their Community Engagement History Team.

About the Role

As an Historian, you will contribute to the development of commemorative and historical resources that highlight the diverse experiences of Australian military service. This includes producing content for the Minister, departmental executive and the broader public.

You will be a key player in a variety of initiatives such as:

* Developing commemorative posters and calendars
* Managing oral history projects and image acquisition
* Contributing to the publication of historical books on Australia's wartime experiences
* Fact checking, research and speechwriting

Key Responsibilities

* Create and review historically accurate content for commemorative and educational purposes
* Manage multiple priorities and deadlines, particularly around significant anniversaries
* Collaborate with stakeholders to enhance historical offerings and digital presence
* Provide expert historical advice to internal teams and leadership
* Ensure compliance with financial and procurement requirements
* Mentor and support junior team members
* Draft and review content including briefings, papers, and official correspondence

We are seeking candidates who demonstrate:

* Strong leadership, research and decision making capabilities
* High-level writing and communication skills
* Experience managing projects and delivering to tight deadlines
* The ability to work independently and within a team
* Stakeholder engagement skills across various audiences

Qualifications and Experience

* Honours, Masters or PhD in History with a focus on military history
* Professional experience in historical research, writing, or publication
* Familiarity with military history, government writing, or public communications is highly regarded
