Take the next step in your career with this exciting chance within Office of the Chief Midwife Officer, Health Workforce Division. Under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, it is a genuine occupational requirement that the role be performed by an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.

The role

The Midwife Grade 7 role, in collaboration with the First Nations Health Office (FNHO), Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAIHC) and professional leadership of the First Nations Midwifery Director in the Office of the Chief Midwife Officer (OCMwO), will oversee and assist with the implementation of the GDF Strategy's vision, aim and priorities across Queensland.

Key responsibilities:

- Extensive experience working in maternity settings with women having Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander babies and their families.
- Advocate and champion the First Nation's Health Equity agenda in OCMwO and Health Workforce Division Queensland.
- Work collaboratively with other relevant business areas across the department to ensure a coherent whole-of-agency response to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Ability to liaise effectively with external stakeholders such as QAIHC, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Organisations (A&TSICCHOs;), First Nations communities and other health service providers to improve First Nations maternity health outcomes.

About you

We are searching for someone who:

- Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health issues relating to maternity services and the ability to communicate sensitively and work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations.
- Demonstrated experience collaborating across multidisciplinary services and with key partners to deliver major health reform for First Nations Queenslanders.
- Demonstrated experience in working effectively with First Nations communities, programs and or initiatives.
- Leadership proficiency through the articulation of team engagement principles and personal attributes that influence a positive team culture.
- Applied knowledge of quality improvement frameworks and associated quality processes inclusive of the integration of midwifery/maternity research and experience in co-designing maternity and infant health care with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Applied knowledge of building a First Nations maternity workforce.

Mandatory qualifications, registrations and other requirements

- Must be of Aboriginal Australian and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. It is an occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 that applicants are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders. To allow the panel to confirm that you are eligible to be considered for this Indigenous Identified role, the panel may:
- Accept your written assertion that you are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person; or
- Obtain from you, as part of your formal application, documentary evidence attesting to your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. - Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Midwife. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager prior to the commencement of employment.
- A Bachelor of Midwifery or relevant postgraduate qualification is a mandatory qualification for this position.
- A letter from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Controlled Health Organisations or a First Nations community demonstrating the candidate's presence and connection in community is highly desirable.
- A post graduate qualification, or current enrolment in a post graduate program in a relevant area of study, is highly desirable.
- Possession of a current driver's licence.
- Ability to undertake travel within Queensland and / or interstate for short periods when required.
