You can help improve lives and create a positive impact in your community It’s an opportunity to enhance your skills & knowledge & gain new experiences You’ll be helping Red Cross to support vulnerable people across Australia The program The Night Cafe aims to provide young people experiencing hardship effective pathways to gain knowledge and skills, access resources and services, and improve social connection and participation. As a Night Cafe Volunteer you will assist the Youth Workers to provide a safe, after-hours space for young people experiencing homelessness or at the risk of experiencing homelessness (ages 12 - 25 years) in inner-city Brisbane. The opportunity For this role you will need good conversational skills and the ability to relate to and empathise with a broad range of people, including those with different lived experiences, abilities, and cultures. Key Responsibilities Include: Serving a hot meal, providing access to toilets and showers, a chance to connect with relevant services through information and referral The opportunity to engage with young people and other volunteers informally and through activities run from the space Ability to observe confidentiality procedures, child protection procedures, and observe all other relevant policies in line with the Night Cafe service and Australian Red Cross. Ability to maintain professional boundaries with young people both within and outside Night Cafe hours. Ability to learn about issues affecting young people, including mental illness, homelessness, and drug and alcohol abuse and empathise with homeless and at risk young people. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the world’s largest humanitarian network. The impact As a Night Café volunteer, you’ll help to increase skills of young people to take care of themselves and to support their friends. Application requirements For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, which will be organised through Red Cross To submit this application, you will need to upload a recent copy of your CV and provide details for two professional references The role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check or Working With Vulnerable People Check depending on your State/Territory.
