Overview
The Teacher Librarian is a member of the team responsible for the College Library services, supporting and facilitating the learning and teaching needs of students and staff at the College. The Teacher Librarian provides education in accordance with the appropriate syllabus and the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers. Collaboratively as a teaching team, the Teacher Librarian will lead staff and students through innovative teaching programs that help build within students a knowledge of the inquiry research process, technology skills and a love of literature and reading.

The Teacher Librarian is expected to exhibit the following qualities and competencies:

* Strong knowledge of curriculum including appropriate teaching qualifications and current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
* Eligibility for membership to the Australian Library and Information Association or demonstrated relevant experience.
* A clear focus on learning and teaching and the wellbeing of students.
* Display a high level of commitment to student welfare extending beyond the classroom.
* Models excellent learning and teaching.
* Positive attitude towards the use of technology in promoting a reading culture with demonstrated proficiencies or a willingness to learn.
* Display loyalty to the Leadership of the College and understand the nature of confidentiality as required.
* Exhibit ongoing professional growth on a personal level and for the benefit of the College community, including participation in different Lasallian Professional Learning activities that the College offers.
* An understanding of and commitment to supporting the educational needs of young men.
* Demonstrate an understanding of key priorities of the legal requirements surrounding Child Safety.
Specific Duties
1. Provide a welcoming and dynamic environment to encourage reading, learning and creative thinking for students and to support different learning styles.
2. Work collaboratively with Learning Area Leaders, teachers and other Library staff across both campuses to create relevant and dynamic reading programs and information literacy programs across all subjects and year levels with demonstrated links to improved literacy levels.
3. Work collaboratively with teachers to ensure students are responsible users of information and work with Academic Integrity.
4. Create a professional learning community through regular engagement in professional dialogue with staff in relation to identifying areas of potential collaboration.
5. Collaboratively plan and teach units of work with subject teachers and other Teacher Librarians to develop information literacy and promote a culture of reading.
6. Work collaboratively with teaching and Library staff to identify, evaluate and select appropriate resources to support the curriculum.
7. Collaborate with staff to promote reading and support students for extension and those with literacy needs.
8. Coordinate the acquisition and organisation of both print and digital resources and information services.
9. Use a variety of selection tools to identify current trends in resources and literature and provide a user centred approach to information delivery and dissemination.
10. Provide a friendly learning environment in which students feel confident that their information and recreational reading needs will be supported.
11. Knowledge of Libguides, Access IT and Beanstack would be advantageous.
12. Other duties as assigned by the College Resource Centre Leader, the Deputy Principal Teaching and Learning, or the Principal.
The Teacher Librarian reports on a day-to-day basis to the Head of Libraries and ultimately to the Deputy Principal Learning and Teaching.
This is a full-time role (term time) and includes the College celebrations of Book Week.
Dates: 18 August - 19 Sept (Term 3) and 6 Oct - 17 Oct (Term 4)
