Thomas Reddall High School, located in Ambarvale on Dharawal country, is a comprehensive and growing high school with a current enrolment of approximately 500 students. The school supports a diverse student population, with approximately 20% of students identifying as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and 24% coming from non-English speaking backgrounds. The school features a seven-class support unit and is committed to holistic learning, wellbeing, attendance, and positive behaviour. Our teaching philosophy emphasises explicit teaching and HPGE programs and strong transition pathways to personalised student success.
At Thomas Reddall High School, the HSIE teacher is expected to deliver engaging, syllabus-aligned lessons that develop students' historical and geographical understanding. You will differentiate learning to meet diverse student needs, embed literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills, and foster inclusive and respectful classrooms. You will assess and report on student progress, maintain professional practice, and uphold Department of Education policies. You will promote values, cultural awareness, and social responsibility to prepare students to participate in contemporary Australian society.
Responsibilities
Deliver engaging, syllabus-aligned HSIE lessons in History and Geography; differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs; embed literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills; foster inclusive and respectful classrooms; assess and report on student progress; uphold professional practice and DoE policies; promote values, cultural awareness and social responsibility; support student pathways to success.
Specific Selection Criteria
* Approval to teach Ancient History, Modern History, History 7–10 and Geography 7–10.
* Ability to work as a team member and communicate effectively with students, school staff and community members.
* Capacity to implement effective and supportive classroom management practices to engage all students in learning.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
