Role Overview:
Aboriginal Heritage Consultant
We are seeking an experienced and collaborative Principal or Senior Aboriginal Heritage Consultant to join our team in Newcastle. The successful candidate will have significant experience and expertise in Aboriginal heritage management and conservation.

* Leading the delivery of heritage projects, including overseeing project teams, planning and delivery of fieldwork, managing budgets and timelines, and ensuring that project goals are met.
* Engaging with clients to understand their project requirements, provide expert advice on heritage and archaeological matters, and develop tailored solutions that meet client needs while adhering to regulatory requirements and best practices.
* Effective stakeholder engagement with both internal and external stakeholders relevant to the role.
* Presenting technical findings and relaying information to non-technical persons, including clients and community.
* Well-versed in heritage and archaeological legislation, regulations, and guidelines, and apply this knowledge to assess significance, develop conservation strategies, and mitigate impacts on heritage and archaeological values.
* Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff, helping to develop their skills and expertise in heritage and archaeological management and consultancy.
Key Responsibilities:
Senior Aboriginal Heritage Consultant
The ideal candidate for the Senior Aboriginal Heritage Consultant role will have extensive experience in conducting heritage assessments, archaeological investigations, and evaluations to identify and assess the cultural significance of heritage sites, landscapes, and archaeological remains.
* Conduct a range of projects which may include cultural heritage impact assessment, conservation, and policy.
* Conduct field surveys and investigations to document and assess cultural heritage and archaeological resources, using techniques such as archaeological excavation, archival research, field surveys, and remote sensing technologies.
* Evaluate the potential impacts of development projects on cultural heritage and archaeological resources, considering factors such as project design, construction activities, and potential changes to the landscape.
* Comply with relevant heritage and archaeological legislation, regulations, and guidelines.
* Liaise with a range of stakeholders, including government agencies, developers, planners, and heritage organisations.
* Develop strategies and measures to mitigate adverse impacts on cultural heritage and archaeological resources, such as archaeological excavations, monitoring, heritage interpretation, and community engagement programs.
* Prepare technical reports, assessments, and documentation summarizing their findings, recommendations, and proposed mitigation measures.
Requirements:
Prerequisites
* A degree in Cultural Heritage Management, Archaeology, Anthropology or related field.
* A minimum of 10+ years of experience for the principal role and 5+ years for the Senior role.
* Preferably experience in a consultancy environment.
* Knowledge of relevant State and Commonwealth heritage legislation and associated regulations and guidelines, with experience in NSW highly regarded.
* Demonstrate leadership experience, including project management and team coordination.
* Interest and experience with client relationship management.
* Australian Drivers license (ideally with 4WD experience).
