About us
At the City of Bayswater, we believe that great communities are built by people who care. That's why we're guided by strong values, shared purpose, and a real passion for creating meaningful change. We prioritise sustainability, community wellbeing, and welcoming places where everyone can thrive. As an employer, we're committed to a culture that values inclusion, balance, and personal growth. Whether you're starting your journey or building on experience, we offer the chance to develop your skills, contribute meaningfully to the community, and help shape the future of a vibrant and evolving community.
About the position
As the City's Urban Forest Officer, you will lead the implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of the City's urban tree canopy and associated greening initiatives. You will turn plans into action - helping to grow, protect and future-proof the City's tree canopy coverage, biodiversity and climate resilience through meaningful, on-ground outcomes.
This is a highly collaborative and outward-facing role, working closely with teams across Council and with a diverse range of external stakeholders, including community groups, schools, funding bodies and delivery partners. You will coordinate grant-funded projects, manage data and reporting, and support evidence-based decision making that demonstrates progress and impact.
As a visible advocate for urban greening, you will represent the City in public and professional forums, contribute to engaging community programs, and help build strong partnerships that reinforce the City's leadership in green infrastructure and urban forest management.
About the person
You are a passionate urban greening professional who enjoys balancing practical delivery with strategic thinking. You bring a strong foundation in urban forestry, biodiversity or environmental planning, supported by sound technical skills in spatial analysis, project coordination and reporting.
You are confident communicating across technical, organisational and community contexts, and take pride in translating complex information into clear, relatable messages. You are motivated by seeing communities engaged and invested in environmental outcomes, and you build trust through a collaborative, approachable and professional style, while working confidently within governance, safety and organisational frameworks to deliver high-quality, compliant outcomes.
You will hold a tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Urban Forestry, Planning or a related field, along with demonstrated experience in urban forest, biodiversity or environmental planning, ideally in a strategic or project coordination role. A current driver's licence is also required.
What we offer
You will love working here because we believe we have great staff who are motivated and passionate about what they do. We offer a total remuneration package of up to $107,686 per annum, comprising a $92,039.04 base salary, 12% employer superannuation, and an optional 5% employee salary-sacrifice matched by the City, delivering up to 22% total superannuation, plus City of Bayswater staff benefits, including:
