About Us
Advanced Design Technology (ADT) is a progressive, privately owned Australian company specialising in the design, development, manufacture of complex electronic systems. We excel at building advanced innovative solutions for sensitive and harsh environments where the cutting edge of technology brings game changing capability to our customers. To support a rapidly expanding business, we are seeking an enthusiastic graduate mechanical engineer with demonstrated experience in providing designing mechanical assemblies. This position is permanent and based in Fyshwick, Canberra. Advanced Design Technology may consider supporting relocation within Australia for the right candidate.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Design Responsibilities
* Independently design and develop precision mechanical components and assemblies using SolidWorks, ensuring seamless integration within advanced electronic systems.
* Create and maintain comprehensive mechanical documentation, including technical drawings, exploded views, and detailed assembly instructions.
* Interpret and apply engineering specifications to drive accuracy, functionality, and manufacturability in mechanical designs.
* Drive updates, revisions, and releases of mechanical components and assemblies in accordance with established engineering change processes.
* Generate high-quality, photo-realistic 3D renders for design validation, product presentations, and stakeholder communication.
Manufacturing & CAM Responsibilities
* Program complex mechanical parts for CNC machining—including 4- and 5-axis operations—using SolidCAM, optimizing for both prototyping and production efficiency.
* Evaluate and refine CAM strategies to differentiate between one-off fabrication and high-volume manufacturing.
* Manage and continually improve the CNC/CAM tool and fixture libraries, ensuring process consistency and productivity.
Design Verification & Analysis
* Conduct and lead design reviews throughout the development cycle, identifying and resolving risks early in the process.
* Perform design validation through Finite Element Analysis (FEA), analytical calculations, and engineering best practices.
* Develop and execute mechanical verification plans—including physical testing—to demonstrate compliance with performance, military, and end-user requirements.
* Evaluate and verify material selections to align with operational environments and military specifications.
* Compile and present clear, detailed design and verification reports to stakeholders and engineering leadership.
