Residential Care Worker - Non-Family Based Care

SCHADS Award Crisis Accommodation Level 2

This role is based in our Non-Family Based Care (NFBC) Team where you will directly provide care, support, supervision and guidance to children and young people who have been placed in our 24/7 residential or Supported Independent Living Service under statutory orders.

You will maintain living arrangements that are stable, safe, nurturing, trauma informed, affirming of culture, connected to community and provide age and stage appropriate risk assessed recreational / educative / skill building activities and development opportunities.

You will help each person navigate their journey 'into, through and out of' placement, ensuring their voice is central while encouraging self-regulation, positive group interactions and respectful negotiations. You will fulfil shift duties, complete administrative tasks, undertake practical household jobs, and assist children and young people to achieve Support Plan goals.

Responsibilities

* Provide care, support, supervision and guidance to children and young people in 24/7 residential or Supported Independent Living settings under statutory orders.
* Maintain stable, safe, nurturing, trauma-informed, culturally affirming environments; support engagement in recreational/educational/skill-building activities and development opportunities.
* Help residents navigate their placement journey with the voice of the young person central; promote self-regulation, positive group interactions and respectful negotiations.
* Fulfill shift duties, undertake administrative tasks, perform practical household tasks and assist residents to achieve Support Plan goals.

Requirements / To be successful you will need

* Minimum Mandatory Qualification as per MQS for Residential Care Workers in QLD; if not held, enrolment in Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention is mandatory. Evidence of enrolment must be provided before commencing, and the qualification must be completed within the originally approved study timeframe.
* Demonstrated experience engaging with children and young people who have experienced trauma and adverse childhood experiences; understanding of the child safety system, statutory orders and the role of residential care.
* Ability to encourage emotional regulation and healing through positive behaviour strategies, relational, culturally safe and trauma-informed approaches.
* Knowledge of child and adolescent development; commitment to involvement in decision-making and learning opportunities.
* Experience implementing Support Plans, liaising with service providers and stakeholders, following through on commitments and practical assistance to children and young people.
* Willingness to complete shift duties, household tasks, grounds maintenance; cook and share healthy meals; maintain a welcoming, safe, inclusive home environment.
* Experience in risk assessment, crisis management, incident reporting and navigating challenges in 24/7 residential settings.
* Administrative, data entry, computer and report writing skills with ability to learn new systems/databases.
* Strong teamwork, collaborative practice and ability to follow through on agreed support and routines.
* Experience working with First Nations people, families, organisations and communities.
* Current National Criminal History Check (less than 3 months old)
* Current Blue Card (QLD Working with Children)
* LSC2 (child safety screening)
* QLD Driver's License Class C
* Current First Aid and CPR certificates
* Hope and Healing certificate or willingness to obtain
* Ability to be on 24/7 rotating roster, undertake shift work and sleepovers, and participate in On Call roster if required
