The Department of Education and Training (DET) provides high-quality early childhood, school education and training services to young Territorians across the Northern Territory. Employing about 4,800 people across the Northern Territory including teachers, principals, and school-based and corporate support staff, the Department's priorities focus on boosting literacy and numeracy, raising school attendance and holding parents accountable, attracting and retaining teachers, creating pathways to real jobs, and improving student wellbeing.
Within the Department, the Communications and Media unit provides advice and support in media management, marketing, website maintenance, internal and stakeholder communications, issues management, strategic communications and communications policy to all areas of the department including government schools and programs delivered to the non-government schools' sector.
As Assistant Director, your primary objective is to provide high level advice on media management, including strategic advice to executives and staff, developing and distributing media and communications materials and maintain strong relationships with ministerial offices, government departments and industry groups.
Your key duties include assisting with the management and leadership of the Communications and Media team, implementing the media and public affairs strategy and driving a variety of media campaigns across the Territory. In addition, you will prepare ministerial speeches, statements and correspondence, build and maintain effective professional relationships across the agency, government and industry to ensure the delivery of best practice media management and improved stakeholder engagement.
To be successful you require demonstrated experience leading responsive and proactive media management teams in a high pressure, diverse and multi-stakeholder environment. Proven expertise in the delivery of contemporary media strategies, advanced oral and written communications skills and a comprehensive knowledge and experience of a broad range of media management tools is essential.
Relevant undergraduate and/or post graduate qualifications in journalism, media, marketing or a related discipline would be well received.
