**The Company**
LongReach Plant Breeders Management (LPB) Pty Ltd is a national wheat breeding program delivering robust wheat varieties to grain growers in each of the key production zones of the Australian wheat belt. LongReach, is a joint venture between Pacific Seeds and Syngenta Australia, and has set new standards in the management and operation of wheat breeding, both in Australia and abroad. It aims to significantly reduce the breeding cycle and increase genetic gain so that growers are well-equipped to handle new environmental, pest and disease challenges.
**The Role**
The Bioinformatics Lead will be responsible for the management, integration, analysis, visualization, modelling, and reporting of data captured in all the aspects of the breeding program. Reporting to the Crop Research Lead - Wheat this is a critical role within the organisation in influencing the breeding decisions. The responsibilities of this role include;
- Collection, curation, and integration of all genotypic and phenotypic data generated in the breeding program
- Management of breeding program databases
- Contract and manage third party contractors to generate and deliver data
- Development of novel computational approaches (develop algorithm) to assist breeders with parent selection identification.
- Staying up to date or abreast with current novel bioinformatic/analytical approaches to potentially be trialed/applied in the breeding program
**The Person**
To be successful in this role you will have proven experience in plant breeding and genomics and have the following skills and attributes:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in data management in a similar environment
- Experience in leading breeding related projects
- PhD or MSc degree in Data science/Statistics/Bioinformatics, genetics and or related fields
- Experience in resource management Leadership and multicultural people management
- Teamwork and excellent across function interaction
- Strong communication ability
- Creative and initiative
