About Us
The Newborn Care Unit (NCU) sits within Women's Newborn and Children's Health in the division of Emergency & Specialist Services. The NCU is comprised of a 14-cot Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a 24-cot Special Care Nursery (SCN) and includes a High Dependency Unit within SCN. The NCU is supported by the Neonatal Early Discharge Service (NEDS).
NEDS is a home visiting support service for NCU infants who no longer require intensive medical and nursing care, but still require some supportive nursing care, such as nasogastric tube feeds and breastfeeding support while they transition to full suck feeds. The scope of the service also extends to home phototherapy for short-term, non-complex physiological jaundice.
