Child Safety Officer (relocate to Roma & be rewarded!)

Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs QLD – Bunbury WA

Every child needs someone. So does every family. What if it's you?

The Department of Families, Seniors, Disability Services and Child Safety is looking for passionate people to join us as Child Safety Officers (CSOs) in Roma. Whether you're a graduate or changing careers, if you have experience or interest in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or similar — this could be your next step.

What does being a CSO mean?

As a CSO, you'll be a voice for children and young people, ensuring their safety and wellbeing under the Child Protection Act 1999. You'll:

* Work closely with families, caregivers, and community organisations
* Deliver statutory child protection services, including assessment, intervention, casework, and case management
* Attend court and write affidavits
* Work with partner agencies and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisations
* Provide safe, culturally informed, and respectful support to families from diverse backgrounds

This is challenging work — but it's also deeply rewarding. You'll help build safer, brighter futures for Queensland's children.

What you get for becoming a CSO:

* PO3 Starting salary of $102,817 - $111,975
* 12.75% superannuation
* Flexible leave and TOIL options
* 2 weeks of formal training and ongoing training including one‐on‐ones with your team leader
* Additional regional and remote benefits up to $10,000 annually, plus accommodation subsidies, extra leave entitlements, and more!

Working in Roma

When you join the Roma CSSC, you'll be part of a team that supports one-fifth of Queensland's geographic area and works across the full child protection continuum. Based in a thriving rural hub, you'll work alongside other government agencies and be welcomed into a tight‐knit community that embraces country living.

Roma offers plenty to enjoy — from pubs, clubs and sporting groups to rodeos, country festivals and the natural beauty of Carnarvon Gorge. With hiking, camping, fishing and easy access to Brisbane by road or a short flight, it's a great place to build both your career and lifestyle.

This dynamic role also gives you the chance to travel across remote South West Queensland, spending time in local communities as you support children and families.

Working in Roma also means you'll receive additional regional incentives.

These include:

* $5,000 annual remote and regional allowance
* $46.70 fortnightly locality allowance
* Accommodation assistance

What you need to be a CSO

To join us as a CSO you will need:

* A Bachelor Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, or in a related field with further study or work experience – please click here for more details on qualifications
* An Australian Driver's License, and the legal right to work in Australia
* Knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999, and the ability to write case notes
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills

As part of your application, you will need to provide certified evidence of your qualifications, working rights, and driver's licence.

Previous Departmental Applicants

All previous departmental applicants are advised that they will be subject to internal disciplinary checks.

Clause 7. General provisions relating to suitability for employment

A chief executive can assess a person's suitability through a range of mechanisms, including but not limited to:

* Criminal history (for relevant duties and prescribed duties (which includes child‐related duties))
* Child‐related duties
* Serious disciplinary action

The directive relating to recruitment and selection provides that applicants for public sector roles must be informed of any suitability assessments that may be required to determine the person's suitability for employment as a public sector employee.
