Our Emergency Department offers the true ‘cradle to grave experience’ and is the perfect place to allow for a well‑rounded and well‑supported training experience. Simulation‑based learning is strongly emphasised, and we have a dedicated ED sonographer to assist with ultrasound skills development. To prepare our trainees for their future as FACEMs, we prioritise their development as leaders and decision‑makers. This is facilitated by a supportive and collegiate environment, flexible rostering, access to a formal mentoring programme and well‑being initiatives such as Schwartz rounds. All trainees are entitled to a PD allowance of up to $10,000. As a result of these efforts, we have achieved high success rates in recent ACEM fellowship examinations. We have a long‑standing relationship with other departments allowing for opportunities to rotate through anaesthetics and ICU to fulfil ACEM training requirements. Trainees are also encouraged to use these links to access trauma, paediatric, neonatology and statewide retrieval service rotations.
