Overview
Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa (KJ) is seeking a proactive and versatile Communications Officer to help share the stories, impact and work of Martu people and Country. This role suits someone who enjoys working across multiple platforms and tasks — from writing stories and managing social media to updating website content and supporting everyday communications needs. We're looking for someone who understands that good stories don't just arrive — you go out and find them.
The position can be based in Newman, Western Australia or remotely, with opportunities to travel to remote Martu communities and spend time on Country.

About the Role
Working closely with the Executive Director – External Affairs, the Communications Officer will help deliver KJ's communications across a range of channels. This role requires someone who is creative, organised and comfortable juggling different types of work — from day-to-day communications tasks to larger storytelling and media projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Write engaging stories, articles and updates about KJ programs and activities
* Manage and produce content for social media platforms
* Maintain and update website content
* Produce newsletters, media releases and other communications materials
* Assist with annual reports and publications
* Develop visual materials such as simple graphics or infographics
* Work with filmmakers and partners on storytelling and promotional content
* Support media engagement and communications campaigns
* Monitor communications performance and analytics
* Identify and pursue new stories and opportunities to showcase KJ's work
About You
You are a multi-skilled communicator who enjoys variety and takes initiative. You might be writing an article one day, updating the website the next, and capturing content from a community visit the day after. You will bring:
* Excellent writing and editing skills
* Experience managing social media platforms
* Experience updating or managing websites
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* A proactive approach — you look for stories and opportunities
* The ability to manage a mix of routine tasks and creative projects
* Respect for Aboriginal cultures and knowledge
Qualifications and Experience
* Tertiary qualification in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field (or equivalent experience)
* Experience in a communications role
* Experience working in the not-for-profit or community sector is highly regarded
* Experience working with Aboriginal communities is highly regarded
