Job Role Summary:
1. As a key member of our team, you will provide legal advice and information to clients regarding the law, rights and legal processes.
2. You will also obtain expert reports and make detailed referrals to appropriate internal and external services, as required.
3. The role involves acting as solicitor and counsel at Tribunals, the Magistrates Court and Supreme Court.
4. Additionally, you will assist and advise Tasmania Legal Aid practitioners in relation to legal proceedings and support the management of relevant legal matters.
5. You will be responsible for providing guidance to less experienced staff including legal practitioners.
6. Furthermore, you will assist more senior Legal Practitioners with research, preparation, drafting and other appropriate tasks as directed.
7. Participating in stakeholder meetings and working groups is an essential part of this role.
8. You will also prepare reports as required by Tasmania Legal Aid or under funding agreements.
9. In addition, you will undertake legal research to assist in the development of program policy and legislation to support law reform and complex legal matters relating to the civil jurisdiction.
10. Engaging in service development, outreach and other community legal education activities is a critical aspect of this position.
11. Performing such other professional legal work within the Tasmanian Legal Aid as required.
About This Position:
* This is a mental health and disability lawyer position in the Civil team at Tasmania Legal Aid, appearing as a Tribunal-appointed separate representative for people who have cases in the Mental Health and Guardianship streams of TASCAT with scope to work across other civil law programs.
