We're now looking for aTechnical Lead – Backend Engineeringto join our Melbourne team and play a key role in evolving the platform that powers it all.
The Opportunity
As a Technical Lead, you'll lead the backend engineering function responsible for ingesting, cleaning, matching, and enriching complex vehicle data from multiple sources.
You'll architect high-performing APIs and automation processes that ensure our vehicle data is accurate, scalable, and valuable to customers.
This role is both strategic and hands-on.
You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to design robust technical solutions, while coaching and developing engineers across the backend team.
You'll have a direct impact on one of the most business-critical functions at AutoGrab – making our data infrastructure smarter, faster, and more powerful.
What You'll Do
Lead and mentor a backend engineering team with a focus on high-performance, scalable systems
Design and maintain backend services and APIs hosted onGoogle Cloud Platform (GCP)
Drive the implementation of data matching, deduplication and quality processes
Work closely with Data Scientists, Analysts, Engineers and Product Managers
Ensure seamless integration of large datasets from diverse automotive sources
Contribute to technical strategy, system architecture, and roadmap planning
Support our broader platform vision and data strategy
What You'll Bring
7+ years' experience in backend or data engineering roles
2+ years in a Technical Lead or Engineering Lead capacity
Strong experience withNode.js,TypeScript, andPostgreSQL
Expertise in building and scaling APIs and backend systems onGCP
Experience working with data quality, matching, or deduplication frameworks
Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
A passion for solving complex, real-world problems through technology
Bonus: Exposure toLLMs, machine learning, or Python
