OverviewEducation Assistant - Special Needs role at Department of Education, Western Australia.
Pool established for permanent and fixed term, full time and part-time vacancies that may arise during the 2025 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2026.
Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.The Largest Education Support School in WA, Durham Road School (DRS), caters for approximately 250 students from Kindergarten through to Year 12.

Individual Education Plan meetings establish learning goals tailored to each student and parent priorities.The RoleAn Education Assistant - Special Needs supports teaching and learning by assisting the teacher, delivering planned programs, and fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
You would work under general supervision with tasks that have limited discretion and judgement, to achieve outcomes defined by the teacher.Duties may include assisting with educational programs (including specialised programs such as occupational, speech, or physiotherapy), implementing individual or small group demonstrations, supporting communication between students and teachers, providing feedback to caregivers or parents under teacher direction, collecting resources or documents, managing classroom supplies, and ensuring foodstuffs and preparation equipment are kept safe and hygienic.Qualifications and SkillsDemonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, liaise with parents, teachers and community members, and assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills to contribute to a professional team and provide advice and evaluation in the development of education programs, including special education and therapy programs when implemented.Demonstrated ability to assist professionals in implementing and evaluating education programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.Knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.Demonstrated organisational skills to deliver effective education programs and provide feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists.Ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students.Eligibility and EquityTo work with us, you must be: be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with work rights for the term of the appointment; obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; and consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check with a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before you start.We are committed to an inclusive and culturally responsive workforce reflecting the diversity in our schools and the WA community.
