About the role
Mater Pharmacy has an exciting opportunity for Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians to join our Hospital Pharmacy team. Positions are available as permanent or fixed‐term, full‐time or part‐time. We welcome those with previous hospital or community pharmacy experience, as well as individuals with limited experience who are willing to undergo on‐the‐job training.
Mater Health Services operates two public and four private hospitals in South‐East Queensland, caring for over 500,000 patients each year. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will support pharmacists, technicians, pharmacy students and other staff to deliver safe, effective, high‐quality pharmacy service across inpatient and outpatient areas.
What you'll be doing as a Pharmacy Technician – Clinical/Hospital Services
Dispensary duties
* Assemble and deliver dispensed medications
* Manage cold chain for refrigerated and frozen medications
* Provide customer service and process payments for discharging patients collecting medications
* Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels in the pharmacy
* Answer phone calls from internal and external customers and patients
* Support pharmacy team with operational and administrative tasks
* Provide responsive, customer‐focused service
Imprest Service
* Schedule restocking of imprest medication to expected levels in clinical and procedural areas on a rotational basis
* Accurately deliver medications required for patient care by receiving, picking, delivering and putting away stock in a timely manner
* Manage expiry dates, stock rotation and product availability
* Handle packages up to 12kg
* Provide responsive, customer‐focused service
* Train team members in all aspects of the imprest role
* Contribute to review of stock holding and schedules, checking expiry and auditing
* Other rotational roles: PBS claim preparation and pharmacy billing, dispensing for chemotherapy, assembling pre‐meds, oral drugs and prescription management for Cancer Care areas, dispensing and prescription management for outpatient services including the Mater Infusion Centre and Hospital in the Home
This role is primarily based at South Brisbane with occasional work at Mater Springfield or Redland.
What you'll be doing as a Production Assistant
As a Production Assistant you will manufacture and deliver a diverse range of sterile (including cytotoxic) and non‐sterile pharmaceutical products compounded for Mater Health and other Queensland institutions. Responsibilities include:
* Prepare and manufacture sterile and non‐sterile pharmaceutical products
* Maintain up‐to‐date knowledge of the Code of Good Manufacturing Practice and comply with established policy and procedures
* Maintain required aseptic production competencies through annual aseptic technique validation and completion of Chemo Check
* Participate in quality assurance and improvement activities to ensure the highest standard of product quality
* Perform duties as directed by the Team Leader, Production Services
* Participate in the on‐call roster to supply urgent medications on weekends and evenings when required
The Production unit is located at South Brisbane and serves patients 24/7, 365 days a year. Weekend and on‐call shifts are required.
About you
To be considered for this role you must have:

* Professional, hardworking attitude and willingness to work cooperatively and effectively with all team members
* Completed or willingness to undertake relevant qualifications such as Certificate II or III in Hospital/Community Pharmacy (or equivalent)

* Flexibility to work additional shifts, including weekends and public holidays
