**About Barwon Health**
With over 8,000 staff and more than 1,200 volunteers we provide services to our local community the G21 region which comprises the residents of the City of Greater Geelong, Colac Otway Shire, Golden Plains Shire, Borough of Queenscliff and Surf Coast Shire. Barwon Health has 1,016 beds across our sites, including 363 residential aged care beds.

**About the Role**
Barwon Health runs a substantial Advanced Training Program for General and Acute Care Medicine Trainees. With links to the Western Victorian Regional Advanced Training Hub, recruitment is coordinated within the hub together with Grampians Health Ballarat and Southwest Health based in Warrnambool, we aim to be able to provide trainees with a training experience that will meet their personal preferences and RACP training requirements. At Barwon Health, trainees have access to 6-month core rotations in:
- Core General Medicine
- Core General Medicine Related
- SJOG Geelong
- Senior Medical Registrar
- Core subspecialty
- Intensive Care Unit (Acute)
- Respiratory (Acute)
- Cardiology (Acute)
- Gastroenterology
Core General Medicine and General Medicine related rotations include a range of subspecialty clinic opportunities including Dermatology, Respiratory, Heart Failure and Endocrinology clinics. Other specialty clinics may be available by negotiation.
Trainees have opportunities to develop leadership skills, participate in clinical governance and quality assurance activities, work closely with consultants taking on clinical lead roles with supervision. We also support trainees in their research and teaching interests having an affiliation with Deakin University, as well as providing teaching embedded within rotation units, with links to state-wide General Medicine Advanced Trainee education programs.

Trainees have the opportunity to live and work on the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula, with options to rotate to other regional centres including Warrnambool and Ballarat. Training in the Western Victorian Regional Advanced Training hub offers work-life balance with surrounding wineries, beaches and national parks, whilst facilitating future opportunities to remain in the region as a consultant, as many of our trainees have gone on to do.
Barwon health provides a supportive environment for trainees to develop their skills to transition into the role of a junior consultant, with mentorship provided by the hub as well as the advanced training director and support from the physician education team.
