About the Role
Reporting to the Chief Digital & Communications Officer, the Media Manager plays a key role in the achievement of the organisation's strategic goals and supporting other departments through proactive media engagement, public relations and stakeholder communications.
Key Accountabilities – Media & Communications
Media Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with media (sport and non-sport) to increase local, national, and international coverage.
Media Partnerships: Manage relationships with SEN, Channel 7, and News Corp to ensure contract deliverables, ROI, and enhanced exposure.
Media Enquiries: Act as the first point of contact for incoming media requests and manage reactive communications.
Content Production: Create and distribute media releases, alerts, guides, match reports, and analytics across all Hockey Australia (HA) areas.
Corporate Channels: Manage HA's LinkedIn and Twitter with timely, campaign-aligned content for media and stakeholders.
Integrated Communications: Collaborate with the Digital & Comms team to align media activity with the content calendar and digital platforms.
Spokesperson Support: Identify, brief, and support spokespeople (executives, players, etc.) for media engagements and events.
Team Media Manager: Support the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras at international events, including overseas tournaments.
Media Training: Deliver or coordinate training for athletes, coaches, and key spokespeople.

Experience, Skills and Attributes
Tertiary qualification in media, communications, public relations, journalism or equivalent
5-10 years' experience of media relations and/or public relations
A strong network of media contacts both in and out of sport
Strong interpersonal and influentials skills with an ability to identify and pitch stories that media will want to utilise and publish
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Working knowledge of sport and the sports industry
Understanding of media monitoring and coverage metrics and applying these to achieve ongoing success
