The WHS Manager & Training is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of employees by implementing and managing comprehensive WHS policies, procedures, and programs. This role involves identifying risks, promoting safe work practices, and maintaining legislative compliance to create a safe and healthy working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Risk, Legislation & Compliance Management:
* Identify, assess, and control workplace hazards to mitigate risk.
* Lead the development and implementation of safe work procedures and best practice systems to enhance workplace safety.
* Conduct WHS audits, safety risk assessments and incident investigations.
* Ensure compliance with WHS legislation, standards, and company policies.
* Enforce legislation and implement prevention programs for communicable diseases, food safety, wastewater treatment, and more
* Inspect and audit workplaces, processes and hazards for legislative compliance.
Policy, System and Procedure Management:
* Develop, implement, and maintain WHS policies, procedures, and management systems.
* Ensure thorough understanding and adherence to WHS policies and procedures.
* Lead and drive company-wide WHS policy and risk management projects.
Training & Development:
* Develop and maintain a robust training system, including inductions and assessments.
* Deliver WHS and compliance training to managers and internal staff.
* Coordinate and deliver toolbox and pre-start meetings.
Incident Management:
* Manage accident/incident investigation and reporting.
* Oversee worker's compensation process from incident to return to work.
Leadership and Engagement
* Prepare, deliver, and lead WHS Committee meetings as required.
* Promote culture of safety, wellbeing, and continuous improvement.
* Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support and build positive relationships and achieve business and compliance goals.
* Support in developing a wellbeing strategy and create employee wellbeing initiatives.
Occupational Health & Safety Plans:
* Develop, implement, and review occupational health and safety plans.
* Implement plans and strategies for safe, economic, and suitable disposal of commercial and industrial wastes.
Environmental & Ergonomic Programs:
* Develop and monitor programs to minimize workplace and environmental pollution.
* Promote ergonomic principles within the workplace.
Skills & Experience
* Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, regulations, and compliance requirements, with the ability to promote a positive safety culture across the business
* Risk assessment, hazard identification, and incident investigation, including workers' compensation and return-to-work processes
* Development, implementation, and maintenance of WHS policies, procedures, and safe work systems
* Design, delivery, and assessment of WHS training programs (induction programs, toolbox talks, compliance training)
* Experience conducting audits, risk assessments, and leading safety committees or workplace wellbeing initiatives
* Project management, continuous improvement, and problem-solving skills, with effective stakeholder engagement and communication
* Decision-making and analytical abilities to drive compliance and operational improvements
* Minimum 5years' experience in WHS or Health & Safety roles, ideally in manufacturing, industrial, mining, or FMCG environments
* A Relevant Bachelor Degree qualifications
