The Role
Prescient is a growing professional services and technology company. We’re looking for a Finance Manager to be the go-to person for all things finance, combining hands-on accounting with reporting, forecasting and system improvement.
This role sits within our Business Operations team and works closely with the Chief Operations Officer, our fractional CFO, and the leadership team. You’ll play a key role in delivering accurate financial information and improving how the business uses financial data, including leading a future migration from Xero.
This role suits someone who enjoys enabling others to work more effectively and take pride in delivering accurate, reliable outcomes. You’ll be comfortable moving between big-picture thinking and hands-on execution and working closely with senior leaders to support sound decision-making.
This is a parttime role (0.6 FTE) and is structured as shorter working days across the full working week
Key Responsibilities
Core accounting & payroll
* Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
* Oversee payroll processing
* Process journal entries, bank reconciliations, and maintain the general ledger
* Ensure compliance with Australian tax obligations, including BAS, PAYG, payroll tax, and superannuation
Financial reporting & analysis
* Prepare monthly management reports, including profit and loss, cash
* flow, balance sheet, and variance analysis
* Deliver clear, actionable financial insights to support business decision-making
Budgeting & forecasting
* Develop annual budgets and monitor performance against agreed targets
* Prepare rolling forecasts to support strategic and operational planning
Systems & process improvement
* Evaluate the current accounting platform (Xero) and lead migration to a new system as required
* Implement and improve financial processes, controls, and reporting practices
Compliance & governance
* Ensure adherence to Australian accounting standards and relevant regulatory requirements
* Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors as required
What You Bring
* A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
* Around 5+ years’ experience in accounting or finance roles, ideally within SMEs or professional services environments
* Strong working knowledge of Australian tax compliance and payroll
* Confidence using Excel and accounting systems; Xero experience is essential and system migration experience is highly desirable
* Well-developed analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills
* Alignment with Prescient’s values, ways of working, and cultural standards
* Australian citizenship, and willingness and ability to maintain an AGSVA Baseline security clearance.
