The Opportunity
One of Australia's largest retailers is rebuilding the .NET platform that powers its national fulfilment and store operations. After years on premises, the system is now being rebuilt into a modern, cloud-native platform running on Azure. You'll be working at the centre of that transformation.
The team is breaking down parts of a long-lived monolith, upgrading legacy .NET Framework workloads to .NET 6+, reshaping data flows and establishing clear service boundaries so the platform behaves predictably in a distributed, event-driven, containerised environment. SQL Server workloads are migrating to MySQL or PostgreSQL, and some UI components are being modernised as the stack moves beyond older Angular.
This is a backend-heavy role. You'll refactor vendor code, harden APIs, improve performance, strengthen caching, and ensure services run reliably across Kubernetes, Service Bus, Functions, IaC and CI/CD pipelines. The team values clear thinkers with strong architectural instincts and real experience migrating on-prem systems to the cloud, leaving them in a cleaner, more maintainable state.
What you'll do
Deliver full-stack development across modern .NET, APIs and front-end components as needed.
Complete the migration from on-prem .NET Framework to modern .NET on Azure, including service redesign and decomposition.
Support the transition from SQL Server to MySQL or PostgreSQL and help modernise data flows for scale and reliability.
Build and operate distributed, event-driven services using Kubernetes, Service Bus, Azure Functions and IaC.
Refactor legacy code, stabilise critical components, reduce technical debt and improve observability and performance.
Work with product, architects and engineers to shape the roadmap and sequence migration, refactoring and feature delivery.
What you bring
Strong experience in C# and modern .NET, with the ability to work effectively in older .NET Framework systems during migration.
Hands-on experience migrating on-prem .NET platforms to the cloud, ideally Azure, including redesigning services and boundaries.
Practical knowledge of distributed microservices, common .NET libraries, DDD, event-driven patterns and async messaging.
Experience with IaC, container orchestration and CI/CD tooling such as Kubernetes, Terraform, Bicep, Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
Solid SQL experience with data refactoring or migration across SQL Server, MySQL or PostgreSQL.
Front-end experience with Angular and TypeScript, with the flexibility to work across React or Blazor as the stack evolves.
Confidence in navigating large, complex codebases and improving them sustainably over time.
