* May 5, 2026
Paediatric training in Tasmania offers a wealth of paediatric specialty and sub‐specialty experiences within a supportive and expanding team. The statewide training programme provides broad exposure to general paediatrics and subspecialities under close consultant supervision. Positions are available for first‐year trainees, those seeking paediatric experience for other training programmes, and more experienced trainees preparing for college exams.
We are very proud to offer paediatric basic trainees the opportunity to meet all their training requirements to complete Basic Training within 3 years with rotations in general paediatrics, emergency paediatric medicine, paediatric subspecialities, rural rotations within Tasmania and negotiated positions with interstate tertiary hospitals. These positions are accredited by the RACP for basic training in General Paediatrics. LGH and NWRH are both accredited for rural training when on rotation from Hobart.

Each unit is staffed 24 hours a day by registrars and HMO staff with consultant oversight.
The wellbeing of trainees is a top priority. The program aims to provide individualized training pathways, including part‐time and job‐sharing opportunities. College supervisors and mentorship are highly encouraged.
