Grade: 7/8
Salary range: $113,574-$125,720 + superannuation and leave loading
Duration: Ongoing, permanent full-time role
Location: Hybrid with an in-office to attend Sydney McKell on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This may be subject to change in line with DCS workplace policies

An exciting ongoing opportunity has arisen for a Data Governance Officer to join the NSW Telco Authority, a rapidly growing agency within the Department of Customer Service.
The successful candidate will be a practical, organised and collaborative individual who plays a key role in supporting enterprise-wide data governance, uplifting analytic capability, and embedding responsible data and AI practices across the organisation.
About the team
This role sits within the Data Governance and Analytics Team in the Digital Technology Innovation Division of NSW Telco Authority.
The Data Governance and Analytics team is a strategic enabler of NSW Telco Authority. The team leads enterprise-wide data governance, uplifts analytic capability, and lays the foundations for responsible AI and Microsoft Copilot adoption.

In this role you will:
* Build and maintain key data governance products and platforms, including the Data Asset Register and Metadata Registry
* Support the organisation in adopting and using data governance frameworks, products, policies and standards
* Work with teams to standardise how datasets are documented and managed, enabling consistent and efficient governance practices
* Partner with project and product teams to embed governance "by design", ensuring the right approvals, classifications and controls are in place before data is shared or used
* Draft and maintain practical governance artefacts such as templates, guidance, registers and committee inputs, and support routine reporting and papers
* Act as a first point of contact for day to day data governance queries, helping stakeholders navigate standards, tools and decisions to keep work moving

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate
* Experience supporting or delivering data governance implementation and management
* Strong prioritisation and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with high attention to detail and sound analytical and problem-solving capability
* Knowledge of data governance tools such as (Aristotle), Microsoft Purview or Unity Catalogue, or the demonstrated ability to learn new tools quickly
* Familiarity with data governance principles, frameworks and best practices, with an understanding of data protection and ethical considerations being beneficial

NSW Telco Authority (NSWTA) operates and manages the Public Safety Network to deliver radio communications for frontline responders.
We work with emergency services and telecommunications carriers to protect communications assets during emergencies and natural disasters.
NSWTA is a delivery agency with responsibility for over $1.5 billion in key NSW Government projects that connect communities and support emergency services.
We lead and coordinate whole-of-government connectivity strategy to bridge the digital divide and help keep people and places safe.
