Area Lead – Country Program

Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa (KJ) is a Martu organisation working with Martu people to care for Country and support strong, sustainable communities across the Western Desert. We're seeking an experienced, grounded leader to guide our Country Program and support Martu Ranger Teams delivering work on Country.
About the role
As Area Lead – Country Program you will provide steady, visible leadership to a complex and important program. You'll work alongside Martu Rangers, community leaders and staff to deliver on-Country work that is culturally grounded, environmentally sound, safe and accountable.
Regular travel to remote communities is required and priorities often shift due to weather, cultural obligations and community needs—calm leadership, adaptability and strong relationships are essential.
What you'll be doing
* Lead and support a team of 6–10 staff across remote communities
* Provide guidance and coordination to four KJ Martu Ranger Teams
* Plan, deliver and adapt land management activities with Rangers and Coordinators
* Balance environmental priorities with cultural obligations and community expectations
* Manage budgets, reporting and funding accountability
* Build partnerships, identify opportunities and contribute to grant applications
* Ensure Country and Martu ways of working inform KJ programs
What we're looking for
* Substantial experience working in remote, cross-cultural settings with Indigenous Ranger teams or communities
* Strong people leadership skills (mentoring, wellbeing, performance support)
* Natural Resource Management (qualification and/or substantial experience) and strong practical judgement
* Comfort operating in complexity and changing conditions
* Willingness to travel regularly and spend meaningful time in remote communities
* Current manual C Class driver's licence
* Ability to obtain a National Police Check and Working With Children Check
