Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be accountable for delivering the following objectives within established release planning timeframes. These objectives will be delivered over a 12-month period, using appropriate technical specialists where required:
a) Lead the establishment and implementation of a comprehensive test automation capability.
b) Upgrade and optimise the team’s Azure DevOps environment, including enhanced automation of functional, integration, and regression test execution.
c) Collaborate closely with existing testing resources to ensure the delivery of high-quality, production-ready software and systems.
d) Update Test Management Plans, processes, and documentation to incorporate automation practices and align with organisational quality standards.
In addition, the candidate will:
* Prioritise tasks within an environment of competing demands, balancing interdependencies with strategic priorities.
* Contribute to the timely delivery of outcomes while identifying opportunities to improve testing processes and automation maturity.
Automation Scope & Requirements
* Automation coverage across API, UI/UX, and regression/system testing.
* No mobile testing is required (no mobile application); however, responsiveness testing is needed to validate behaviour across screen sizes.
* Responsiveness efforts will complement work performed by the existing two testers.
Automation Approach
* Build a reusable regression automation pack to be executed for every release.
* Deliver greenfield automation for new features alongside uplift of regression coverage.
* Ensure the automation solution has a long lifecycle, strong maintainability, and alignment with Azure DevOps CI/CD practices.
Scripting Languages & Framework Flexibility
* No strict language requirement: suitable options include Python or JavaScript/TypeScript, depending on the selected framework.
* Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar are acceptable. Flexibility is encouraged, provided the chosen stack ensures maintainability and scalability.
* HP UFT is not preferred but can be considered if it aligns with integration needs and lifecycle longevity.
Seniority Level
* A hands-on Senior Automation Engineer is required.
* Must be capable of designing and implementing the automation framework and writing automated test cases in C# with Selenium.
* Ownership of end-to-end automation tasks is expected; team leadership or people management is not required.
Existing Framework & Support
* A partial Selenium-based automation suite exists, but no dedicated automation staff currently maintain it.
* The new resource must:
o Assess the suitability of the current framework and test suite.
o Decide whether to revise, rebuild, or completely replace the framework.
o Work independently to deliver API, UI/UX, regression, and system test automation.
Additional Requirements
* Achieve minimum 80% automated test coverage across critical components.
* Ensure the framework is designed for easy maintenance, scalability, and CI/CD integration.
* Produce clear and comprehensive documentation to enable handover, onboarding, and contributions from other team members.
