$77,500 to $104,459 per annum (based on 70 hours per fortnight), plus superannuation and a 9 day fortnight. Appointed salary in this range will be based on skills, qualifications and experience

About The Role
The Waterway Programs Officer plays a key role in supporting the management of Hornsby Shire's catchment areas—critical to the health of our waterways and aquatic ecosystems.

Working as part of a dedicated team, the role contributes to the strategic delivery of Council's catchment and estuary management programs, including planning, monitoring, research and community education initiatives.

The position is responsible for helping develop and implement actions to address pollution, erosion, water quality decline, and biodiversity loss across the Shire. It also involves assisting with compliance investigations, providing specialist technical advice to internal and external stakeholders, and coordinating consultants and contractors to effectively manage risks to Hornsby's waterways, catchments and water resources.

Position Requirements

* A science degree in environmental-related subjects such as environmental science, estuarine ecology, natural resource management
* Class C Licence

Desirable

* Experience operating boats and towing boat trailers- hold a Coxswain Grade 3 Certificate, or demonstrated willingness to obtain
* Senior First Aid Certificate, or demonstrated willingness to obtain
* Comfortable working in outdoor environments, including inclement weather and remote field locations

About You
You are an enthusiastic and motivated environmental professional with a strong interest in making a meaningful difference for the local community and natural environment. You bring strong problem solving and critical thinking skills and enjoy identifying threats in catchments and waterways and developing practical, evidence based solutions.

You have a solid foundation in catchment and waterway processes and are comfortable working across a hybrid environment that includes office based work, laboratory tasks and outdoor field activities. With strong communication skills, you are confident engaging with the community and working collaboratively to achieve positive outcomes. Given the dynamic nature of the role, you are well organised, adaptable and able to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
