Job Description
We are seeking a full-time Civil Lawyer/Solicitor (Women's Rights) to join our team in Alice Springs, NT, on a 2-year contract. As a key member of our team, you will provide legal advice and representation in areas including family law, domestic violence, tenancy, and employment. You will also appear in courts and tribunals, collaborate with a multi-disciplinary, trauma-informed team, participate in community outreach, deliver legal education, build partnerships with local organisations, and contribute to law reform projects. Your strong grasp of civil law matters, especially domestic and family violence, will be essential in this role.
About Us
The Central Australian Women's Legal Service delivers holistic, culturally safe legal services to women in Central Australia and the Barkly Region. We assist those affected by domestic and family violence across family law, civil law, and more. With offices in Alice Springs and Tennant Creek, we lead education, reform, and outreach initiatives to support systemic change.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide legal advice and representation in areas including family law, domestic violence, tenancy, and employment
* Appear in courts and tribunals (including duty lawyer work)
* Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary, trauma-informed team
* Participate in community outreach (including remote travel) and deliver legal education
* Build partnerships with local organisations and contribute to law reform projects
* Maintain accurate legal files and contribute to internal training
Requirements:
* Eligible for a Practising Certificate in the Northern Territory
* Minimum 2 years post-admission experience in an Australian legal practice
* Ability to work with diverse communities, including First Nations people
* Strong communication skills and a commitment to social justice
This is a female-identified position under the Sex Discrimination Act (Sections 30 and 34). You must be able to obtain a NT Driver's Licence, Ochre Card, and National Police Check.
