Irrigation Technician – Werribee About our Client Our client is a leading fresh produce (brassica) grower based in the Werribee South agricultural district.
With a reputation for high-quality cabbage broccoli and cauliflower production, they are seeking a skilled and dedicated Irrigation Technician to manage their water infrastructure and ensure optimal crop health and Kogan People Solutions have been retained to assist in this critical recruitment effort.
Reporting to Farm Management, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and operation of complex irrigation systems across the property.
This is a hands-on role requiring technical expertise in water management and the physical ability to work in outdoor market garden environments.
The role is full time and ongoing .
Salary – generous salary negotiable within the range $75k to $85k plus superannuation per annum Location – Werribee South Key Responsibilities System Operation: Program and monitor automatic irrigation controllers (e.g., Mait, Netafim) to regulate water usage based on crop requirements and weather conditions.
Maintenance Repair: D iagnose and repair faults in mainlines, submains, lateral lines, and drip tapes.
Repair and maintain pumps (centrifugal/turbine), valves, and filtration units.
Fertigation Management: Operate fertilizer injection systems to ensure precise nutrient delivery to vegetable crops.
Monitor flow meters and calibrate dosing pumps.
Infrastructure Installation: Assist in the layout and installation of new irrigation systems for rotating crops, including rolling out drip tape and installing impact sprinklers.
Water Supply Management: Manage water sourcing from river and recycled water supply schemes, ensuring compliance with water allocation rights .
Skills Experience Required Qualifications: Certificate 4 in Irrigation, Agriculture, or a related trade or agreed alternative Experience: In your working career you can demonstrate a minimum 1 years of relevant post-qualification experience as an Irrigation Technician or in a similar technical role.
Technical Knowledge: Demonstrated knowledge of hydraulic systems, pumps, filtration, and low-voltage control systems.
Experience with vegetable row cropping is preferred.
Licensing: Current valid Driver's Licence.
Ideally you will present with Class A Recycled Water systems and/or drop tape management for vegetable crops Attributes: Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work autonomously, and willingness to work flexible hours including rotating weekends .
Physical strengths to work in the farm environment which enjoys variable and bracing weather.
You must have unrestricted full time Australian working rights to be considered.
