This critical leadership role is responsible for statutory decision-making and the lawful release of protected and sensitive client information under complex legislative frameworks. Leading a specialist team within a highly sensitive, regulated mental health service environment, you will provide authoritative advice on privacy, information governance and legal risk, while ensuring timely, defensible and compliant decision-making across a complex public sector environment.

Reporting to senior leadership, you will oversee a team managing high-risk, confidential information requests and legal notices, including:

* Freedom of Information (FOI) requests
* Privacy Act and APP 12 applications
* Subpoenas, court orders and legal notices
* Client Releases of Information (ROI)
Key responsibilities include:
* Lead and manage a specialist information release team in a high-risk mental health setting;
* Oversee statutory decision-making under the Privacy Act 1988, FOI Act 1982, subpoenas and court orders;
* Prepare high-quality reports, incident reviews and sensitive responses;
* Provide expert advice to senior leaders on privacy, governance and information risk;
* Build strong stakeholder relationships across government and service partners;
* Contribute to policy, governance and continuous improvement initiatives;
* Manage competing priorities and complex case matters under strict legislative frameworks;
* Foster a positive, professional and emotionally intelligent team culture.
Essential requirements:
* Australian citizenship;
* Ability to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance.
To be successful, you will demonstrate:
* Proven EL1 experience or equivalent in a governance or statutory role;
* Extensive experience handling FOI, Privacy Act requests, subpoenas and legal correspondence;
* Strong leadership capability in complex operational environments;
* Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including executive-level advice;
* Proven ability to manage risk in sensitive, regulated settings;
* Demonstrated high integrity, professionalism and sound judgement;
* Highly regarded: Experience within the Australian Public Service together with a background in health or mental environments.
