About the role
As a Senior Oracle Database Administrator, you'll be a trusted technical leader ensuring the reliability, performance and security of critical national data systems. You'll manage complex Oracle environments, oversee upgrades and optimisation and guide the adoption of best‑practice database engineering. Working closely with Data Architects—who design, create, deploy and manage how data is structured, stored, integrated and used across IT systems—you'll help translate strategic data designs into robust, scalable database solutions. Your role will involve mentoring others, solving high‑impact technical challenges, and contributing to modernisation initiatives that enhance the agency's digital capability.
Role Responsibilities
* Manage and administer enterprise‑grade database systems to ensure they operate at peak performance, maintain high availability and remain secure.
* Design, document, implement and maintain SQL and Oracle‑based infrastructure solutions, working closely with business application teams, enterprise architects and technology engineers.
* Oversee and collaborate on platform and application incidents and service requests, delivering a high standard of support and ensuring strong customer satisfaction with database services.
* Lead and contribute to major technology initiatives, including lifecycle upgrades, platform modernisation and migration to cloud‑based PaaS environments.
* Develop, automate and document monitoring and operational processes to improve efficiency, capacity planning and system performance.
* Strengthen the security and compliance posture of database technologies, ensuring alignment with organisational standards, the ISM, Essential Eight and broader data‑integrity requirements.
* Maintain and enhance technical documentation, including procedures and resolution records, to support root‑cause analysis and drive continuous improvement.

What is on offer
* The contract period is 12 months, with 2 x 12-month extension options.
* Hourly Rate - $ $160.00
Security Requirements:
Due to the nature of the work environment, our client requires candidates to hold an active Baseline Security Clearance.
