Legal Advisory Position

The successful candidate will provide authoritative legal counsel on complex administrative and statutory interpretation matters.
Working in a collegiate legal team, this role is instrumental in guiding litigation strategies, shaping legislative projects, and influencing public policy development, particularly within privacy and information access frameworks.
Main Responsibilities
* Deliver clear, strategic legal advice on administrative, privacy, and information access legislation
* Represent the agency in tribunals and court proceedings, including instructing or briefing counsel
* Prepare high-quality written materials including legal submissions, briefing papers, and reports
* Lead or support law reform and legislative interpretation projects in line with regulatory obligations
* Conduct legal risk assessments and provide mitigation strategies to stakeholders
* Collaborate with operational teams to ensure policies and procedures align with legislative requirements
* Develop and deliver internal and external training materials to build legal literacy
* Maintain up-to-date legal precedents, registers, and advice templates
* Identify and address emerging legal issues impacting agency operations
About You
* Admitted as a Legal Practitioner in NSW and holds (or is eligible for) a current NSW Practising Certificate
* Demonstrated experience in administrative law, statutory interpretation, and public sector legal advice
* Strong litigation experience, ideally within tribunals or judicial review contexts
* Proven ability to manage complex legal matters independently and provide practical, defensible solutions
* Familiarity with government law frameworks and ethical obligations in a public service environment
* Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with an ability to distil complex legal language
* Collaborative team player with the ability to mentor others and foster a knowledge-sharing culture
* High-level research and analytical skills with a focus on continuous legal education
* Must possess valid Australian working rights - Permanent Residency, Australian Citizenship or appropriate long-term visa is required; sponsorship is not available
