MIHE Lecturers and Tutors are the first point of contact for students regarding their learning. They are responsible for the delivery of teaching material to students, including the management and continuous improvement of the units that they teach. They prepare, review, and improve learning materials and assessments, and develop and deliver unit lectures and tutorials.
Lecturers and Tutors monitor student progress, moderate learning and assessments, provide academic guidance and support outside scheduled teaching times, and monitor the student experience and wellbeing, making referrals to support services as appropriate.
Primary Purpose of Position
To deliver high‑quality teaching, monitor student progress, provide academic support, and contribute to scholarship in teaching and learning within MIHE's discipline areas.
Position and Reporting in the Organisational Structure
Lecturers and Tutors report to the Dean.
Required Qualifications and Skills
* Higher degree in the relevant field (AQF level 9 or higher)
* PhD in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
* Teaching experience in IT or a related field
* Professional experience in the IT sector
* Strong knowledge and experience relating to Cyber Security
* Demonstrated experience in Higher Education and excellence in teaching practice at an Australian university or private higher education provider
* Demonstrated ability to coordinate, prepare and deliver undergraduate and/or postgraduate programmes with international content and an awareness of contemporary issues
* Demonstrated capacity to support student learning and coordinate teaching teams
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
* Highly competent in the teaching and assessment of student learning
* Contributes to research in their field and engages in scholarship in teaching and learning
* Demonstrated capacity to work effectively and negotiate sensitively with students on learning issues
* Desirable: ability to produce high‑quality curricula or programme materials
* Ability to meet deadlines and manage varying workloads effectively
* Excellent role model for staff and students, embodying MIHE's values and culture
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials, workshops, seminars, and student field excursions
* Prepare assessments and rubrics
* Mark and assess student assessments
* Provide mentoring to other staff
* Assist in developing course and unit materials with guidance from senior staff
* Provide academic consultation to students and initial support in relation to student learning
* Undertake assessment invigilation and moderation duties
* Assist with pre‑enrolment, enrolment, graduation, and orientation activities as required
* Attend and participate in academic governance and other meetings as required
* Participate and contribute to MIHE's research activities
* Undertake professional development
* Perform a range of administrative tasks associated with the role
* Maintain a high level of accuracy in all correspondence documents
