Head of Learning Area - Humanities and Social Sciences

This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2026. Churchlands Senior High School (SHS) offers a learning culture based on shared practice in instructional strategies combined with appropriate use of technology in a Windows environment aimed at promoting excellence, shared values, and the attributes of citizenship. We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, and innovative Head of Learning Area (HOLA) with exceptional teaching and Learning skills to lead our team of Humanities and Social Sciences Teachers.

The successful applicant should have strong qualities and capacity in curriculum leadership, effective team management, and strategic and operational planning processes responsive to student performance data and information.

As a curriculum leader, the successful applicant should fully embrace the vision of the school and will ideally be an exceptional role model to a team of innovative teachers and the broader school community. As a curriculum leader, the HOLA of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) would provide skilled leadership to specialist subject teachers within the learning area and provides up-to-date information on relevant specialist curriculum issues.

The successful applicant will, in collaboration with the leadership team, provide strong educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting shared ownership of the school vision and strategic direction. As part of the school leadership team, you would also be responsible for implementing and managing elements of the school business plan relevant to the Humanities and Social Science Learning Area.

The successful applicant will ideally have the competency to teach to Year 12 Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) level in at least one of the HASS courses offered at Churchlands SHS – Accounting and Finance, Business Management and Enterprise, Economics, Geography, Modern History, Politics and Law and Philosophy and Ethics.

The successful applicant will ideally possess excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to lead and manage a vibrant HASS team to provide students with the highest quality curriculum delivery and programs. You would ideally be innovative, knowledgeable, and possess thorough understandings of instructional and curriculum leadership whilst keeping abreast of the latest developments pertaining to the HASS Learning Area.
