Workshop Advisor
The HeavyIron Group is seeking an experienced Workshop Advisor to join our growing heavy mechanical business based in Edinburgh, South Australia. This is a pivotal role within our workshop, acting as the key link between customers, technicians, and management to ensure smooth job flow, high-quality workmanship, and exceptional customer service.
Working closely with the Service Manager the Workshop Advisor supports daily workshop operations through job coordination, customer communication, and technical assistance, while maintaining a strong understanding of mechanical processes.
Position Overview
The Workshop Advisor plays a critical role in coordinating workshop activities, supporting technicians, and managing customer communication throughout the repair process. This position ensures jobs are accurately scoped, scheduled, and completed efficiently while maintaining HeavyIron Group's quality, safety, and service standards.
Key Responsibilities
Customer & Job Coordination
* Act as a primary point of contact for customers regarding job progress, updates, and enquiries.
* Receive, review, and clarify job requirements with customers and internal stakeholders.
* Support the Service Manager with job scheduling, priorities, and workflow coordination.
* Ensure accurate job information is communicated to technicians.
Workshop & Technical Support
* Provide technical input and advice to assist technicians with repairs and diagnostics.
* Assist with hands-on mechanical work when required.
* Monitor job progress and flag delays or issues early.
* Inspect completed work to ensure quality standards are met.
Parts & Administration Support
* Coordinate parts ordering in line with job requirements.
* Liaise with suppliers regarding availability and delivery timeframes.
* Ensure parts and job documentation are accurately recorded.
* Support the completion of job cards and service records.
Team Communication & Leadership
* Facilitate clear communication between customers, technicians, suppliers, and management.
* Support and mentor workshop staff, apprentices, and junior technicians.
* Promote safe work practices and compliance with workshop policies.
Continuous Improvement
* Contribute to improving workshop efficiency, systems, and processes.
* Support the implementation of new procedures and business improvements.
* Lead by example in professionalism, safety, and customer service.
What We're Looking For
Experience & Qualifications
* Automotive trade qualification preferred, but not essential for the right candidate.
* Experience in a workshop advisory, supervisory, leading hand, or senior technician role is desirable but not essential.
* Solid understanding of automotive and/or heavy vehicle workshop operations.
Skills & Attributes
* Strong customer service and communication skills.
* Ability to coordinate multiple jobs in a fast-paced environment.
* Sound mechanical knowledge and diagnostic capability.
* High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
