Leading Worker Civil and Construction
2 x Permanent Full Time roles
LGEA Grade 7 - $79K – 81K
Looking to step up from operator to leading hand? Or already leading a crew and want something more stable, local and well-supported?
We're looking for a Leading Worker to guide a small civil crew delivering road, drainage and infrastructure works across the Alexandrina region.
This is a hands-on role — you'll still be on the tools, but also planning the day, supporting your team and making sure the job gets done right.
About Us
At Alexandrina Council, we deliver real work that matters to the community — roads, footpaths, stormwater and infrastructure people rely on every day.
You'll be working across the Fleurieu Peninsula, with a local team that backs each other, takes pride in the job, and delivers outcomes that make a difference locally.
We keep things practical — we respect each other, work as a team, and get the job done safely and properly.
About the Role
You'll lead a small crew delivering civil construction and maintenance works, while working alongside them day-to-day.
You'll be responsible for:
· Leading and coordinating a small civil crew on daily works programs
· Planning the day — allocating tasks, organising plant, materials and people
· Delivering works across roads, footpaths, stormwater and general infrastructure
· Working on the tools alongside your team
· Keeping jobs on track and keeping your Supervisor in the loop
· Managing contractors on site when required
· Making sure work is done safely and to the right standard
· Setting the tone on site — supporting your team, solving problems and keeping things moving
About You
You're someone who:
· Leads by example and takes ownership of your work and your crew
· Treats people with respect and builds a positive team environment
· Communicates clearly and keeps things running smoothly on site
· Is practical, organised and focused on getting the job done right
· Takes safety seriously and looks out for your team and the public
You'll also need:
· MR Truck Licence
· White Card
· Work Zone Traffic Management
· Experience operating civil plant and equipment
· Ability to read plans and translate them into on-site work
(Tickets, plant experience and Local Government experience are a bonus, not a deal breaker.)
Why Join Us
· 9-day fortnight – long weekends every second week
· Local work – be home every night
· Stable, permanent role
· Supportive team environment – people look out for each other
· Variety of work – no two days the same
· Opportunity to grow into further leadership roles
If you're ready to step up and take ownership of your own crew, we'd like to hear from you.
