We are seeking to establish a pool of Assistant Gardener – Handyperson for various vacancies which may arise during the school year. Appointments may be offered at any time.
The Assistant Gardener is responsible for maintaining the school grounds in a safe and tidy condition, ensuring a conducive external learning environment for students and staff. This includes overseeing the upkeep of turf areas, garden beds, shrubs, trees, and various soft landscapes.
The role involves maintaining hard landscaping features like courts and paving, marking sports areas, and conducting minor repairs in alignment with departmental policies. The Assistant Gardener is also responsible for keeping gardening facilities, equipment, tools, and machinery in a clean and serviceable condition.
This role contributes to the development of safe work procedures and conducts risk assessments as needed. Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation and the management of hazardous substances are integral aspects of the role.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Manager of Corporate Services and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the College's outdoor spaces are well-maintained and conducive to a positive learning environment.
Selection Criteria:
1. Demonstrated ability to maintain and improve landscaping areas.
2. Ability to operate and maintain equipment and apply safe working practices.
3. Capacity to assist in maintaining both soft and hard landscaped areas.
