Key Responsibilities
* Fabrication & Repair
: Construct and maintain complex tools, dies (for stamping/forming), jigs, fixtures (for holding/locating), and molds (for plastic/metal casting).
* Machining
: Operate conventional and CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines like lathes, mills, and EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) to shape metal and other materials.
* Design & Planning
: Study blueprints, drawings, and specifications; use CAD software to design tools and plan production processes.
* Quality Control
: Use precision instruments (micrometers, gauges) to measure, check, and verify manufactured parts against tolerances.
* Collaboration
: Work with engineers and production teams to optimise tool performance and troubleshoot issues.
* Maintenance
: Perform preventative maintenance on tools and machinery.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
* Technical Skills
: Proficiency with machine tools, precision measuring, blueprint reading, CAD/CAM, and sometimes EDM.
* Soft Skills
: Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, mechanical aptitude, self-motivation, and teamwork.
Education/Training
:
* Skill Level 3: AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, AQF Certificate IV, or at least three years of relevant experience.
