An opportunity for a Legal Counsel, Commercial Lawyer, to join a leading global financial services organisation. In this position, you will partner closely with business leaders to shape and execute commercial initiatives, providing clear, timely and practical legal advice that supports effective negotiations and drives strong commercial outcomes.
The Role
Reporting into the broader Corporate Affairs and Governance function, the Legal Counsel will provide legal support across a wide range of commercial and corporate matters. The role involves drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, advising stakeholders on regulatory issues, monitoring legislative changes and collaborating with peers to strengthen compliance, culture and organisational conduct.
Key Responsibilities
* Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts, including IT and SaaS agreements, ensuring alignment with legal obligations and organisational requirements.
* Provide timely legal advice on general corporate and commercial matters.
* Assess and communicate legal risk, guiding stakeholders toward well-reasoned, commercially aligned decisions.
* Provide regulatory advice on matters relevant to APRA, ASIC and associated entities.
* Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, advising on potential impacts and preparing the organisation for change.
* Deliver legal insights on emerging issues to minimise risk exposure.
* Maintain current knowledge of industry and regulatory trends, working with peers to identify strategic implications and inform organisational responses.
About You
* Legal practice experience of 3+ years’ PQE, backed by strong law firm training.
* Strong commercial contract drafting and negotiation experience.
* Broad knowledge of commercial arrangements and supplier agreements.
* Exposure to IT agreements and consumer law (advantageous but not essential).
* Proven track record of independently driving and leading complex negotiations.
* Commercial and pragmatic mindset, with a solutions-oriented approach to legal issues.
