About the Role
Lead and embed upfront mechanical engineering excellence across Hydro Tasmania’s capital project pipeline. Reporting to the Head of Capital Planning, this role drives consistent planning, estimating rigour and engineering standards, ensuring projects are shelf‑ready, cost‑robust and aligned to long‑term asset strategy. You’ll provide functional leadership to planning engineers and work closely with Assets & Infrastructure, Production and Strategy teams to maximise asset availability and minimise downtime.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead upfront engineering input to ensure technically robust capital plans
* Drive consistent scope definition, estimating and planning standards
* Embed constructability, maintainability and whole‑of‑life thinking early
* Strengthen cost certainty, schedule realism and business case quality
* Identify and mitigate technical and planning risks before approval
Skills & Experience
* Degree in Engineering (Engineers Australia eligible or equivalent)
* Strong experience in engineering planning within asset‑intensive environments
* Proven leadership or mentoring of engineering teams
* Capability in cost estimation, scope development and risk assessment
* Strong stakeholder engagement across operations and capital delivery
