Design Manager – Class 2 Multi-Residential (Property Developer)

Mega Recruitment is currently partnering with a well-established and highly regarded property developer to recruit an experienced Design Manager with proven Class 2 multi-residential experience. This role is strictly suited to candidates who are currently working (or have very recent experience) as a Design Manager for a property developer, managing the design delivery of Class 2 residential buildings.
This opportunity will suit a qualified architectural professional who began their career within an architectural practice and has since transitioned into a developer-side Design Manager role, with a strong understanding of how Class 2 buildings are designed, documented, and constructed.
The Role
As Design Manager, you will be responsible for managing the end-to-end design delivery of Class 2 multi-residential developments, ensuring all design outcomes are coordinated, compliant, and aligned with commercial and construction requirements. You will work closely with internal development and project teams, as well as external consultants, to deliver buildable and compliant design solutions.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the design process for Class 2 multi-residential projects from feasibility through to construction delivery
* Coordinate architects, consultants, and specialist designers to ensure fully integrated design outcomes
* Ensure compliance with NCC, Australian Standards, planning controls, and statutory authority requirements
* Oversee design development and construction documentation to ensure buildability and programme alignment
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure design aligns with budget, programme, and commercial objectives
* Identify, manage, and mitigate design and compliance risks specific to Class 2 residential buildings
* Lead design reviews and provide recommendations to enhance buildability, efficiency, and value
Skills & Experience (Mandatory Requirements)
* Proven experience working as a Design Manager on Class 2 multi-residential projects – this is mandatory
* Current or recent experience working client-side for a property developer in a Design Manager capacity
* Previous experience working within an architectural practice, supported by formal architectural qualifications
* Strong technical knowledge of Class 2 construction methodology and delivery
* Demonstrated experience managing projects across all design stages, from concept to completion
* Proven track record delivering multi-residential projects within Australia
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or a related discipline
* Strong understanding of Australian building codes, NCC requirements, and planning regulations
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Full Australian working rights (Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident)
* Local Australian experience is essential
* Applicants must meet the Class 2 multi-residential Design Manager experience requirement to be considered. We will not be considering other applicants who do not meet these basic requirements at this stage.
* Must be based in Sydney with full-working rights.
