What is the role?

Applications are sought from suitably qualified applicants wishing to be be considered for the role of Team Leader Chemical Criminalistics, Hazardous Stream.

The role of the Chemical Criminalistics Team Hazardous Stream is to provide specialised chemical forensic analysis to trace or bulk materials including explosives, ignitable liquid residues, chemical warfare agents, general chemicals, in addition to playing a key role in field based detection and complex scene response.

What will you do?

**The team leader of this critical team is expected to**:
Oversee and manage the operational delivery of Chemical Criminalistics capabilities including working at level across Forensics to ensure that operational responses are tailored to the problem at hand and working with external partners to ensure service delivery needs are met.

Action strategic objectives and manage change ensuring that team processes are efficient and people focussed.

Ensure the professional development of team members to meet operational needs including ensuring that technical training programs and delivery is contemporary and fit for purpose.

Manage resources including equipment at the team level.

Administer and maintain the forensics quality assurance system.

Conduct casework and report results on evidence types related to Chemical Criminalistics capabilities (desirable)

As a Team Leader you will play a pivotal role in developing people, managing change and influencing behaviours that lead to a supportive culture that respects the perspectives, talents and value of each individual. Consistent with the AFP values, AFP leadership philosophy, organisational reform agendas, AFP corporate business plans and your Performance Development Agreement, the expectation is that you will deliver on the core responsibilities and meet any requirements of the position as outlined below.

Essential Requirements

A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
Contemporary knowledge and experience relevant to the role.
Minimum of 5 years' experience in a like or related field.
Tertiary qualifications in Forensic Science or Chemistry.
Relevant qualification or extensive experience and knowledge in area of expertise.
Demonstrated ability to lead a team, mentor others or develop and deliver capability in a complex environment.
Desirable Requirements

The following skills and/or experience would be highly regarded:
Expertise and a strong track record of providing Chemical Criminalistics evidence, or expertise in another relevant/allied Forensic Science discipline;
Experience in leading/training technical/scientific teams;
Organisational, time management and prioritisation skills;
Excellent communication skills; and
Experience in managing member training, development and/or progression.
Additional Information

National or International travel may be required as required to meet the operational needs of the organisation.
